SE_video
In order to fill a gap in the market for cost-effective, easy to use, functional video software, which can use any standard high-definition video camera available on the high street, Appia have – in a joint venture with Mouchel – produced SE_video.
The Hardware
High definition digital video surveys provide very accurate, high-resolution and spatially referenced video data for any roadway environment. This can be obtained at normal traffic speeds (up to 80 km/h) without the need for traffic management. The use of the internal Global Positioning Systems (GPS) contained within the new cameras allows the system to locate the video data to your spatially referenced network. An optical distance measuring device can be used for the purposes of dealing with any potential signal dropouts from the GPS. The images are spatially referenced using the accompanying GPS positions.

The Business Need
Many people believe the highway network is well covered by the video surveys already available on line and from other sources. However the highway network is constantly changing and the data contained by other sources may not provide the required data, which could include:
- Pavement surface details
- Inventory
- Visual evidence of Accident spots
- Visibility surveys
- Planning issues
- Network Appreciation
- Planning New Highway Features
- Recording Safety/Detailed Inspections i.e. for defending claims in court
The ability to fulfil the above data requirements makes it an essential tool that any highway manager should have readily available for use. The cameras can be mounted in any vehicle with suitable power supplies and which provides the required line of vision. It can be easily be installed in a suitable vehicle, such as a safety inspection van.
SE_video Software
SE_video allows you to view many different data sets alongside the video depending on what data you have for that particular road section, the example below shows the software with GPR Data. To view any particular area of the network just click on the map and the video will automatically play.
